For our Belgian Branch, we are looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to work at the European Technology Center (ETC) based in Machelen. 

 

 

 
What will you do?
 

 

The Mechanical Engineer provides subject matter expertise, oversight and assistance to the mechanical team in support to their internal customers. They demonstrate deep knowledge of process equipment, ranging from pilot plants to laboratory scale equipment in regard to construction, modification and maintenance. They are able to read and create technical documentation including, but not limited to PFDs, P&IDs, electrical and pneumatic schematics and mechanical design and fabrication drawings. Subject matter expert for specific processes and procedures, including piping and tubing, material selection, working at height, crane and lifting operations and pressure equipment. They will work with pilot plants, lab equipment, production simulation lines, rotating equipment, reciprocating equipment, tanks, vessels, piping, structural, and other fixed mechanical equipment. They should have a good understanding of safety, health, and environmental requirements (SHE). Able to provide support or guidance for complex trouble-shooting, may participate in constructability and maintenance design reviews and assist in engineering for routine maintenance or project support. They have the ability to influence without authority and interact effectively with operation and maintenance organizations. They demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse groups and is able to network effectively within and outside the organization (with vendors and suppliers), as needed. 

 

 

 

Job Role Responsibilities:

 

 

Develop work scope, cost estimates and bill of materials as needed, and provide oversight and support to the technical execution of mechanical work in the field.
Ensure mechanical work is conducted according to overall site and/or business procedures and standards, following internal and external rules and regulations. 
Oversee the schedule of personnel, supplies and equipment availability in order to maximize efficient resource utilization in the execution of maintenance or project activities. Coordinate, as needed, work scheduling with operations and maintenance.
Develop and implement equipment strategy and maintenance design philosophies (including project specifications for mechanical equipment), and ensure maintenance is conducted according to such philosophy. 
Provide technical support and coordination of risk assessments (HAZOP and HAZAMs), incident investigation and conceptual studies prior to start of operation. 
On-site subject matter expert for pressure equipment, working at heights, and crane and lifting operations. 
Own the site gas distribution system and mechanical shop machinery.
Support operating and maintenance teams troubleshoot complex issues. 
Provide technical support and input to training development and delivery. 
Share best practices and relevant acquired knowledge, and provide feedback for enhancement of installations, procedures and processes.
Develop strong personal expertise, share knowledge with others via networking, mentoring, etc. 

 

 
We are looking for candidates with:
 

BSc/MSc Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and relevant work experience.
Fluent in Dutch or French, and English.
Experience in working within the framework of a structured safety program, having actively participated in ensuring safe operations, health and safety of personnel and compliance with environmental regulations.
Proven knowledge of practical and legal aspects (applicable European norms) of pressure piping and equipment, and of the European Machine Directive. 
Excellent customer relations, verbal and written communications skills.
Good interpersonal, supervisory and leadership skills and effective multi-cultural team work management.
Able to prepare and present material to business management.
Strong planning, analytical and organizational skills. Able to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities; compare data from different sources to draw conclusions; think critically while evaluating problems and formulating solutions; use judgment for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions.
Proven ability to solve problems creatively within established frameworks.
Able to work and deliver on tight deadlines. Organized and autonomous.
Experience with project management, reliability and maintenance principles, cost estimates, scheduling, cost control, procurement activities, and management relationships.
Used to working in an ever changing environment with a constructive and positive attitude.
Preferable with 8+ years of multinational company work experience.
