We are seeking a high-caliber Machine Shop Lead to drive production in our specialized aerospace facility. This is a "player-coach" position designed for a master machinist who thrives on technical challenges and enjoys mentoring a small, dedicated team. You will be the technical heartbeat of the shop, ensuring that flight-critical components are delivered with zero-defect precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead by Example: Spend 60-70% of your time "under the hood"?performing complex CNC setups, proofing programs, and machining high-tolerance parts (Inconel, Titanium, Aluminum).
- Production Management: Oversee daily workflow, delegate assignments, and ensure the team hits aggressive delivery milestones without compromising quality.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Resolve complex machining issues, optimize feeds/speeds, and refine CAD/CAM programs (Mastercam preferred) to improve efficiency.
- Quality & Compliance: Maintain our AS9100 standards. You will oversee first-article inspections and ensure 100% material traceability and documentation accuracy.
- Mentorship: Train junior machinists on advanced setup techniques, blueprint reading, and the use of precision GD&T instruments.
- Resource Management: Manage tooling inventory and coordinate preventative maintenance for our fleet of CNC mills and lathes.
What You Bring
- Experience: 8+ years in CNC machining with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role within the aerospace sector.
- Technical Mastery: Expert-level ability to read complex blueprints and apply advanced GD&T principles.
- Tooling Knowledge: Deep understanding of specialized cutting tools and work-holding for exotic aerospace alloys.
- Mindset: A "quality-first" mentality. You understand that in aerospace, there is no room for error.
- Communication: Ability to interface effectively between the shop floor and senior engineering/management.
Why Join Us? We offer a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects that literally take flight. If you are a master of your craft ready to lead a premier shop, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities
- Production Oversight: Manage the daily workflow for CNC mills, lathes, and manual machines. You are responsible for scheduling jobs to meet tight aerospace deadlines and adjusting priorities when "hot" parts arise.
- Technical Leadership: Act as the subject matter expert for complex setups. You?ll perform first-article setups, troubleshoot difficult tool paths, and mentor junior machinists on speeds, feeds, and work-holding strategies.
- Programming & Optimization: Often involving hands-on CAD/CAM work (Mastercam, SolidWorks), you will optimize programs to reduce cycle times and improve surface finishes on flight-critical components.
- Quality & Compliance: Ensure every part meets rigorous aerospace tolerances (often ?.0001"). You oversee "in-process" inspections and ensure all documentation/material certifications are meticulously maintained for traceability.
- Tooling & Maintenance: Manage perishable tool inventory and coordinate preventative maintenance for high-value machinery to minimize downtime.
- Safety & Culture: Enforce OSHA standards and foster a culture of precision. In aerospace, "good enough" doesn't exist; you set the standard for excellence.
