A client of ours in the automotive manufacturing industry located in Frankfort, Kentucky is seeking a Production Planning Supervisor to join their team.  This role is a leadership and highly analytical position responsible for optimizing the end-to-end production scheduling process. The supervisor ensures manufacturing output aligns with capacity, material availability, and customer demand through effective team leadership and continuous process improvement.  This is a full-time permanent opportunity offering a competitive salary and benefits package. 

salary: $75,000 - $80,000 per year

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Development: Supervise, train, and mentor a team of production planners, overseeing performance reviews and managing goal setting to ensure timely and efficient scheduling. 

  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop, approve, and oversee both short- and long-term production schedules based on customer orders, sales forecasts, and target inventory levels.

  • Inventory & Material Assurance: Approve production trials and ensure safety stock levels are maintained to mitigate internal and customer risk. Collaborate with Purchasing, Warehouse, and Quality to guarantee material readiness and on-time delivery.

  • Operational Optimization: Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) and actively coordinate with manufacturing teams to manage capacity constraints and resolve production bottlenecks (manpower, machine, or planning issues) to support on-time delivery.

  • System Management: Maintain and optimize key planning parameters (e.g., lead times, lot sizes) within ERP/MRP systems (JDE or similar).

  • Continuous Improvement & Reporting: Analyze production data and KPIs to drive process enhancements, reduce delays or waste, and ensure planning activities comply with safety and quality standards.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Communicate critical scheduling changes and priorities to all relevant departments (Production, Sales, Engineering, Quality) and actively participate in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) and demand discussions.
