Position Summary
The Tax Manager oversees client engagements, manages tax compliance and consulting services, and leads a team of tax professionals within the firm. This role is responsible for reviewing complex returns, providing strategic tax planning, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and building strong client relationships. The Tax Manager also plays an integral role in staff development, workflow management, and supporting firm growth.
Work Environment

Pay: $150,000 - $220,000 per year

responsibilities:
1. Client & Engagement Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, providing high-quality service and proactive tax guidance.
- Plan, execute, and oversee multiple tax engagements simultaneously.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional communication and responsiveness.
- Identify opportunities for additional services and support business development.
2. Tax Compliance
- Review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S-corporations, C-corporations, trusts, estates, and nonprofits.
- Oversee preparation of tax returns completed by staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Manage multi-state and multi-entity filings, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
- Research and resolve complex tax issues.
3. Tax Planning & Advisory
- Provide clients with tax planning strategies to minimize liabilities and support long-term financial goals.
- Advise on tax implications of business decisions, transactions, and entity structure.
- Stay current with changes in tax law and communicate updates internally and to clients.
4. Review, Quality Control & Compliance
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of tax work performed by team members.
- Develop and monitor internal processes to ensure compliance with professional standards and firm policies.
- Assist with IRS and state tax audits, correspondence, and notice responses.
5. Leadership & Staff Development
- Supervise, mentor, and train accounting staff.
- Review workpapers and provide constructive feedback to support employee growth.
- Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and evaluating staff performance.
- Manage engagement budgets, workload, and deadlines for the tax department.
6. Firm Support & Strategic Initiatives
- Contribute to firm initiatives, workflow improvements, and technology implementation.
- Participate in partner meetings, strategic planning, and overall firm development.
- Help expand the firm's service offerings and client base.
qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA license required.
- 5-8+ years of tax experience in a public accounting environment.
- Prior supervisory or management experience strongly preferred.
- Strong background in individual, partnership, and corporate taxation.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
- Excellent client-service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines during peak seasons.
- Proficiency with tax and accounting software (e.g., UltraTax, ProSeries, Lacerte, CCH Axcess, Thomson Reuters).
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
