We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Truck Shop Manager to lead the maintenance and repair operations for our growing commercial fleet. This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring the safety, efficiency, and reliability of our vehicles, while managing a dedicated team of technical professionals. Compensation: Competitive salary commensurate with experience + comprehensive benefits package. Key Responsibilities: Fleet and Shop Management
  • Operational Oversight: Direct all aspects of the shop?s daily functions, including diagnostic work, mechanical repairs, welding/fabrication projects, and equipment maintenance.

  • Preventive Maintenance (PM): Design, implement, and rigorously track a proactive PM schedule to minimize breakdowns and extend the lifespan of all fleet assets.

  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure the shop and all fleet vehicles strictly adhere to federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT, OSHA, and environmental standards. Maintain meticulous records for compliance.

  • Resource Management: Manage and control shop inventory (parts, tools, supplies), negotiate vendor contracts, and oversee the procurement process to achieve cost efficiencies.

  • Budgeting: Develop, monitor, and manage the annual shop budget, tracking expenses, labor costs, and capital expenditures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in fleet maintenance management, preferably overseeing a large commercial truck fleet (Class 7/8 tractors and trailers).

  • Proven experience successfully managing and mentoring a team of mechanics/technicians.

  • strong working knowledge of heavy-duty diesel engine systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, suspension, and air brakes.

  • Excellent understanding of DOT/FMCSA maintenance regulations and OSHA safety standards.

  • Proficiency with fleet maintenance software and basic computer applications (MS Office Suite).

  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Technical certification or degree in Diesel Technology or a related field.

  • CDL Class A or ability to obtain one.

  • Experience with welding and fabrication processes relevant to truck/trailer repair.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily shop operations, ensuring efficient workflow for maintenance, repairs, and welding projects.

  • Manage, mentor, and schedule a team of mechanics, welders, and support staff, including performance reviews and training.

  • Maintain the fleet's operational readiness and compliance with all safety, environmental, and transportation regulations (DOT, OSHA, etc.).

  • Control inventory of parts, tools, and supplies; negotiate with vendors to optimize costs.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance (PM) schedules and procedures for all fleet vehicles and equipment.

  • Manage the shop budget, track expenses, and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or quality.

  • Ensure all repair and maintenance documentation is accurately completed and maintained, utilizing fleet management software.

  • Address complex technical issues and provide expertise on vehicle diagnostics, repairs, and modifications (including welding/fabrication).

  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment, enforcing strict adherence to safety protocols.

  • Coordinate with fleet operations to minimize vehicle downtime and optimize asset utilization.
