Responsibilities

General Administration & Compliance

  • Follow lab requests and maintain data integrity using Excel, Access, and "pass down" emails.

  • Communicate non-conformances to supervisors and ensure FIFO scheduling.

  • Manage TATS (Time and Temperature Sensitive) materials and maintain strict traceability.

Manufacturing & Preparation

  • Layup: Kit plies using cutters; layup carbon fiber and fiberglass panels/coupons with resin films and foams.

  • Machining: Cut and prepare samples using best practices for composite machining, abrading, and adhesive application.

  • Curing: Program and monitor digital ovens and autoclaves.

Testing & Analysis

  • Mechanical: Perform ASTM standard testing using Instron frames, Blue Hill software, and strain gages.

  • Physical/Analytical: Conduct DSC, DMA, TMA, FTIR, and HPLC analysis; perform acid digestions (sulfuric/nitric) and density testing via Pycnometer.

  • Thermal: Execute burn-offs and furnace testing to determine fiber volume and density.

Quality & Dimensional Inspection

  • Measurement: Use calipers, micrometers, and handheld gauges to verify tight tolerances.

  • Advanced Metrology: Operate CMM/PCMM equipment and PCDMIS CAD++ software.

  • Blueprints: Interpret GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and CAD models (Solidworks/Catia) to perform First Article Inspections (FAI).

  • Documentation: Choose calibrated equipment and document non-conforming parts with NC tags.
